Our Captains
Captain Gray Long
My love and passion for offshore fishing began at the early age of 10 when my father would check me out of school early to go along with him on fishing trips with his clients. I can remember being so excited to have the opportunity to go. I loved everything about it. The long drive down from Alexandria, the lack of sleep, and the ride out to the fishing grounds that seemed to take days. It was all so very exciting and interesting.
I realize now that I drove the captain and deckhands crazy with all the questions but I wanted to learn everything about it. Back then, with the liberal limits we would fill the huge fish boxes with all types of Snapper, Grouper, Amberjack and Cobia as well as other cool looking fish. I can remember not even wanting to take a break to eat or drink , I didn’t want to miss a minute of fishing time. And I always feared hearing those words from the captain saying it was time to head in. From those days on I was driven to get my own boat and fish out there as often as I could and stay for as long as I wanted.
After all those years have passed, I still have that same passion and love for offshore fishing and I thoroughly enjoy sharing it with my customers. The old saying that goes, “find something you like to do and you will never work a day in your life” certainly applies to being an offshore fishing captain. Though the days are long and the nights are short, fishing out in the Gulf of Mexico is truly a labor of love for me.

Captain Alex Negulescu
Fishing has been my passion ever since I can remember. My dad started to take me fishing at a young age and it’s one of those things that had always captivated me. Any chance I’d get I would take my bike to our local neighborhood pond and fish as long as I could until I’d get in trouble for staying out too late. Growing up in south Louisiana means that you truly are able to experience all that the “Sportsman’s Paradise” has to offer. I enjoy every type of fishing and hunting that our state has from bass fishing in the spillway to catching tunas and swordfish in the Gulf of Mexico and shooting ducks in the marsh. You never know what you’re going to see out in the Gulf of Mexico, it’s a different world. My favorite part of taking people fishing is seeing the reaction they have when they catch their fish of a lifetime and I love it when people come out here and see things they’ve never seen before. Any time that I have off from fishing, I go fishing for fun. It’s truly one of those things that never seems to get old, and I am lucky to say that I can do this every day.
Captain Gavin Madden
I was born and raised in Southeast Louisiana, where hunting and fishing are just a way of life. I’ve been on and around boats for as long as I can remember, mostly down in Venice. My first real job was working as a deckhand on offshore fishing boats out of here.
I’ve had a passion for hunting and fishing my entire life and can’t imagine doing anything else. I especially enjoy chasing big pelagic species in the Gulf’s rich waters. One of the things I love most about fishing here is that no two days are ever the same—you’re always seeing something new, and the fishing is constantly changing with the seasons.
Venice is an incredible place to fish, and I’m proud to be part of the team at Go Long Charters. I feel lucky to call this place home and to work with such an experienced crew. Whether you’re a seasoned angler or it’s your first time on the water, we’ll make sure you have a great time.
Come on down and see it for yourself!
Captain Trey Wanko (Grand Isle)
My name is Captain Trey Wanko, and fishing has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. Growing up on the water in Grand Isle, Louisiana, I developed a love for the Gulf and everything it has to offer. What started as a passion quickly turned into a career—I became a captain to share that same excitement and adventure with others.
I’ve been running boats for years and earned my USCG Captain’s License, along with certifications and training that ensure every trip is both safe and unforgettable. Since 2018, I’ve built my career around the water—from cleaning fish for locals and visitors to now guiding offshore and inshore trips where we target everything from red snapper and tuna to speckled trout and cobia.
Fishing isn’t just a job for me—it’s what I love to do. My goal on every trip is simple: to put people on fish, create lasting memories, and give each crew a true Grand Isle experience. Whether you’re an experienced angler or a first-timer, I’ll work hard to make sure your time on the water is one you’ll never forget.
Jaques Gaffin First Mate
Growing up in Pass Christian, Mississippi, I have had a fishing rod in my hand for as long as I can remember—whether it was casting lines in the ditch next to my house or riding my bike down to the seawall. That early passion turned into a lifelong pursuit, and now as an adult, I have built a deep connection to the water that shows in everything I do. As the oldest of four brothers, I naturally stepped into a leadership role early on, developing the work ethic, responsibility, and grit that define me today.
Since 2019, I have been running trips out of Venice, Louisiana, chasing my favorite target—yellowfin tuna. When I am not offshore, you’ll find me in the woods deer or duck hunting, always staying connected to the outdoors. As Go Long Charters First Mate, I bring not only experience and knowledge of Gulf waters, but also unmatched energy, dedication, and a true love for putting clients on fish and giving them an unforgettable experience.
